NCC at Anurag University: Adventure, Leadership and Excellence
Scaling New Heights — One Mountain at a Time
In July 2024, two Anurag University cadets did something that takes real guts. C/SGT Sai Abhivardhan Arcot and C/SGT L. Kalyani travelled to Uttarkashi for a 12-day Mountaineering Course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering surrounded by Himalayan peaks and the Bhagirathi River, training alongside cadets from 17 directorates across the country. Days started at 6:00 AM with physical training, moving into sessions on rope knots, rappelling, sports climbing, and safety management. The highlight? A trek to Tekhla Mountain and night climbing sessions under a sky full of stars moments that don't just build skill, they build the kind of character that stays with you long after you've come back down.
From the Mountains to the Open Sky
Just a few months later, in October 2024, five Anurag cadets took on a Parasailing Course at Secunderabad Parade Grounds CWO D. Roopesh Reddy, C/SGT Sai Abhivardhan Arcot, C/SGT L. Kalyani, CDT M. Shashank, and CDT S. Ankit Kumar. Ten days of learning to face fear, trust training, and find confidence in situations that felt anything but comfortable at first. The fact that some cadets showed up for both the mountaineering and parasailing courses says everything these are students who don't just sign up for an experience. They keep coming back for more.
The Cadets Who Come Back Different
It would be easy to look at all of this and think the NCC is simply about adventure. But spend any time around Anurag's cadets and you realise it goes much deeper. The NCC builds a particular kind of person someone who shows up on time, follows through under pressure, and genuinely looks out for the people around them. These aren't values the NCC just talks about. They're habits built through months of showing up and doing the work, quietly, consistently, without an audience.
Those habits don't stay confined to NCC activities. They spill into academics, internships, and careers. Many NCC alumni will tell you that the confidence built during their cadet years became the foundation for everything that followed regardless of which path they chose.
